ONDURA/METAL COMPARISON

We know that selecting a new roofing system is not easy. There are many options available and, like most other building products, each roofing system has its own pros and cons. In order to help you as you begin your evaluation, we offer here some thoughts and comparisons that you might find helpful.

Though regarded as one of the most durable types of roofing, metal does have some weaknesses. Special tools and skills are required for cutting and installing metal, plus the edges of sheets are sharp and require extra precaution. Extra care also has to be taken not to install different types of metals in contact with one another (such as galvanized steel and steel coated with zinc), as incompatible materials can cause rapid corrosion.

Below are some of the benefits of using Ondura in Re-Roofing applications:

  • No special tools required . . . Ondura can be cut with a utility knife or circular saw

  • Unlike metal, Ondura has no sharp edges—it won’t cut hands or clothing during installation

  • Re-roofs directly over most existing roofs with no tear-off necessary (re-roofing with metal often requires removal of the existing roof)

  • Ondura has an in-depth Installation Guide that walks you through every aspect of installation

  • Is light-weight (18 lbs. per sheet) for easy handling

  • Ondura is backed by the industry’s only Lifetime Limited Warranty
